PRESENTERS

KEYNOTE  Dr. Vincent Monastra serves as the director of the FPI Attention Disorders Clinic in Endicott, NY where he provides and supervises all evaluation and treatment procedures. He is internationally recognized as an expert in the diagnosis and treatment of ADHD and is the author of numerous scientific papers, an award winning book for parents (Parenting Children with ADHD: 10 Lessons that Medicine Cannot Teach) and a guidebook for clinicians (Unlocking the Potential of Patients with ADHD: A Model for Clinical Practice).  In 2013, the FDA approved the QEEG process developed and patented by Dr. Monastra and Dr. Joel Lubar for use in diagnosing ADHD. 

 

 

KEYNOTE  Dr. Kathleen M. Budge is the coordinator and leader of the Leadership Development Program at Boise State University, an innovative, nontraditional preparation program, the purpose of which is to develop leaders who have the commitment and capabilities to lead schools where all students succeed.  Dr. Budge also serves as an associate professor in the Curriculum, Instruction, and Foundational Studies Department, where her research and scholarly activity focuses on educational leadership, leadership development, rural education, school improvement, and poverty.

Dr. John Lee is an Associate Professor of Social Studies Education at North Carolina State University. He was an author of the College, Career and Civic Life Framework for Standards in Social Studies and is co-director of the C3 Teachers project.  Currently he is consultant to NYSED on the initiative to craft the NY Social Studies Toolkit.  

Dr. David Hicks is an Associate Professor of Education at Virginia Tech specializing in History and Social Science Education. His publications include a co-edited book with E. Thomas Ewing entitled Education and the Great Depression: Lessons from a Global History. He has served as co-editor of the social studies current issues section of the Society for Information Technology and Teacher Education (SITE) online journal, Contemporary Issues in Technology and Teacher Education.

Mr. Stephen Hauprich is a NY State Certified Social Studies Teacher at VVS High School, instructing both Advanced Placement US History and Regents US History Courses. He has been very active with MO BOCES in developing and promoting regional Virtual AP blended and online approaches to meet expectations for new AP US History course design, thus satisfying district college and career readiness expectations while addressing the revisions of the Common Core.

Dr. Julie Causton is an Associate Professor in the Inclusive and Special Education Program in the Department of Teaching and Leadership at Syracuse University where she teaches graduate and undergraduate courses.  Her published works have appeared in over thirty journals, and she is the author of multiple books on inclusive education this year.  A former elementary, middle and high school special education teacher herself, Dr. Causton knows firsthand how inclusion leads to better outcomes for students.   As an educational consultant, Dr. Causton works with administrators, teachers and paraprofessionals to help promote and improve inclusive practices. Her dynamic presentations focus on responsive and engaging ways to educate children with autism, challenging behavior, or any disability label within the context of general education.

Ms. Kate Gerson is the Senior Fellow for Educator Engagement and The Common Core with the Regents Research Fund.  As part of the inaugural cohort of New Leaders for New Schools, Ms. Gerson designed, launched and led a model transfer school for over-aged-under-credited students which was later duplicated more than 15 times.   As Executive Director of Academic Programs for New Leaders for New Schools from 2007-2010, Ms. Gerson drove program design and implementation for principal recruitment, selection, assessment, and training, organizational change management, and leadership coach development. She has consulted nationally on quality instruction with a focus on teaching and learning at all levels in the system.
